"When schoolchildren start paying dues, that's when I'll start representing the interests of schoolchildren."-- Albert Shanker, former president, American Federation of Teachers, 8/15/85 WelcomeEducation Action Group believes choice and competition will improve education in America. School choice will improve all aspects of education. Competitive bidding for health insurance will save money and allow more assets to go to children. Contracting for non-instructional services will also harness the power of competition and free up assets. Merit pay will stimulate teacher excellence. Unfortunately, school boards are often blocked or attacked by school employee unions because those sensible financial decisions also decrease the influence and strength of the unions. We work to see that strong-arm tactics school unions use to maintain their power are exposed and help school boards to make decisions that are in the best interest of kids and taxpayers. As former Clinton advisor Dick Morris says, "School boards are the unseen layer of government." It is important taxpayers understand how they work, the power that is in their hands, and how the union attempts to influence their decisions, both through elections and PR tactics. If you want to get involved, see how we can help you in your district, are a board member looking for like-minded leaders around the state or would like to give your opinion, please let us know. |
